Introduction
The Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department (EIT&AI Department), Government of Maharashtra, is the nodal department responsible for driving the State’s vision of a digitally empowered, innovation-led and globally competitive economy. The Department has been constituted pursuant to the Government Notification dated 21 April 2026, with a comprehensive mandate encompassing Electronics, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Governance, Digital Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies. By bringing these domains under a unified institutional framework, the Department aims to ensure strategic convergence, efficient governance, and accelerated technological advancement across the State.
The Department is responsible for formulation and implementation of policies relating to Electronics, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, and for driving the State’s digital governance initiatives. It leads the design and delivery of citizen-centric e-Governance platforms, promotes adoption of Artificial Intelligence in public administration, and enables digitization and process transformation across government departments.
The Department also fosters growth of the IT, ITeS and Electronics sectors, supports development of digital infrastructure including data centres and connectivity, and promotes innovation through startups, research and industry collaboration. It ensures robust cyber security frameworks and data governance standards, thereby building a secure, resilient and future-ready digital ecosystem for Maharashtra.
