Category: Category 4 – Best Website / Portal(Bronze Award Winner) Project: Web Portal of Sugar Commissionerate, Maharashtra State Department: Sugar Commissionerate, Department of Cooperation Project Description: A state-of-the-art web portal of Sugar Commissionerate, M.S. provides information about the Sugar industry in Maharashtra including administrative details, information of all Cooperative and Private Sugar factories, Daily Cane crushing and Sugar production reports for each factory, Sugar factories’ current financial position, their updated balance sheet etc. The website contains GIS maps depicting all sugar factories as per their exact latitude-longitude positions and various parameters are also mapped on the maps. This website has been a catalyst for the promotion of transparency in the Sugar industry in Maharashtra, as previously such information was not publicly available. The website has been receiving more than 500 hits per day since its launch last year. After the launch of website in June 2013 the number of RTI applications has reduced by 40%.
